Winter
I suppose you have to start with the Vallée Blanche. One of the great experiences of a lifetime for an intermediate or above skier - after you have braved the trek to the start point.  If you have any doubts about the beauty (or the trek to the start point) click here and enjoy the photographs.

You don't have to be that brave. The generic name 'Chamonix' includes four ski areas, Les Grands Montets, Le Brévent, La Flégère and La Domaine de Balme. In addition there are about a dozen resorts within an hour's drive, which means that you can always go where the snow and or weather is best. These resorts include St Gervais, les Contamines, les Houches, Mégève and Flaine in France; Courmayeur and La Thuile in Italy and Verbier in Switzerland. The Chamonix ski areas are easily accessible using the bus network and offer a vast range of beginner and intermediate skiing, as well as limitless off-piste skiing for the expert. If you don't want to take the bus, we will take you to the slopes in the morning and collect you in the afternoon.

The location of the chalet, however, means that different members of your party can come home at a time to suit themselves.  So, when your mad brother wants to ski from dawn to dusk (after his early morning run and before his evening workout), you can take a leisurely lunch in one of the fine mountain restaurants, come back to the chalet, have afternoon tea and follow this with a good soak in the hot tub, accompanied by a refreshing gin and tonic, whilst you contemplate the evening meal!

You don't have to ski at all to enjoy a winter holiday in Chamonix. As well as the wide range of shops bars and restaurants you have an ice skating rink, an indoor swimming pool, and horse drawn carriage rides through the woods around the town. There are two amazing mountain railways, one which winds its way through the valley, up over the pass and into Switzerland; and the other, a tribute to 19th Century engineering, which climbs steeply to Montenvers on the Mer de Glace (1913 metres) with spectacular views all the way.
